- Currency and Banking Facilities
- • Bhutan’s unit of currency is the ngultrum (Nu), with 100 Chetrum =1Ngulturm. The Ngultrum is fixed to the value of Indian Rupee. Indian Currency of denomination 100 is widely acceptable in the country. Indian Rupee bank notes of denomination 500 and above are not accepted in Bhutan. In the case of tourists visiting Bhutan the bank notes shall be retained on entry to be returned upon exit. Few hotels and shops accept payments through mastercard and Visa. ATM service is available everywhere in Bhutan. Tobacco and Alcohol Products • Bhutan is a smoke-free country. Import of cigarettes/tobacco products is NOT allowed and is a punishable offense in Bhutan.
